Lancrigg Wedding Pianist | Lake District Pianist
Lancrigg Wedding Pianist
Lancrigg is one of the Lake District’s most breathtaking wedding venues, set just outside Grasmere with unrivalled views across to Helm Crag and the surrounding fells. With a mix of outdoor ceremony spaces, the main house for smaller weddings and a large open-plan barn for bigger celebrations, it’s a venue that offers real flexibility and a strong connection to its surroundings.
Craig Smith provides live piano music at Lancrigg weddings, adapting his setup to suit the different spaces across the venue. Whether performing outdoors with the fells as a backdrop, inside the house for more intimate celebrations or in the barn for a lively wedding breakfast, his approach is shaped by wider experience across outdoor and multi-space venues in the Lake District, allowing the music to adapt seamlessly to the way each wedding uses the space.
Piano at Your Lancrigg Wedding
The main house at Lancrigg is typically used for smaller weddings, where a compact piano setup works best, although one of Craig’s baby grand pianos can be used where space allows for a more striking visual impact. For larger celebrations, the open-plan barn provides a flexible space for both ceremonies and wedding breakfasts, with the baby grand able to be positioned wherever it works best for the layout and atmosphere.
Drinks receptions can take place outdoors, in the barn or inside the house depending on the weather. On rainy days, the bar area in the house works particularly well for live piano, keeping the atmosphere relaxed and social while guests chat before the meal. Outside, the best position is between the two seating areas, adjacent to the bar, allowing the music to carry to all areas.
Music Outdoors at Lancrigg
The following clip shows Craig performing during a sunny wedding reception at Lancrigg.
Most couples marrying at Lancrigg are drawn to its outdoor ceremonies, set in the shadow of a large tree with one of the most striking views in the Lake District. Live piano is particularly effective here, with the sound carrying clearly across the open space while complementing the scale and calm of the surrounding landscape. Craig can set up a portable baby grand piano in this space using the venue's external power supply, allowing the music to feel fully integrated with the setting rather than separate from it.
Given the distance between the ceremony area and the main reception spaces, a two-piano setup is usually the most effective option. For weddings that include music later in the day, Craig recommends a compact electric piano for the ceremony in the lower gardens, with the portable baby grand set up near the main house for drinks receptions and a quick move for the wedding breakfast. This avoids delays moving equipment and keeps the music continuous throughout the day. Where music finishes after drinks, the setup is reversed so the baby grand can be used for the ceremony.
Your Lancrigg Wedding Live Music
The most popular package at Lancrigg is Craig's Ennerdale Package, music for the ceremony and drinks reception with or without music for the hour preceding the ceremony. Other couples also add music for the wedding breakfast and music is also available for the early evening after the meal before the evening reception begins:
- Guests’ arrivals
- Wedding ceremony
- Drinks reception
- Wedding breakfast
- Early evening downtime
Having performed in the Lake District for several years, Craig understands how to manage the practicalities of venues where celebrations move between buildings and to outdoor spaces, while ensuring the music fits each part of the day and the setting around it. He'll always aim to perform outside where possible, and has developed specific setups to make this work while minimising equipment moves. Whether it’s a quiet outdoor ceremony with the fells in the background or a lively, request-led wedding breakfast in the barn, the setup and performance are always tailored to suit the way each wedding unfolds.
